The new register has many issues associated to it. The touch screen is getting excessively dirty due to the Cook touching some greasy food and then moving and touching the touchscreen itself. There is also the added problem of the manager constantly having to unlock and reset users and if the manager needs to go in the back and perform paperwork they would be interrupted other duties and this can cause a major Workforce delay. Not to mention the customers could be getting aggravated with every time they come to the restaurant they need to wait for the system to be unlocked rebooted or for the cashier to have their user reset. When the register locked, only the cashier who was logged in prior to it locking could unlock it without a system restart.
• Amount of time managers were spending unlocking the registers.
• Cashiers forgetting their user Id and password, other cashiers would log in for them.
• Inadequate button layout, cashiers would key in the incorrect password.
• Cashiers would leave for break or shift and forget to log out of the locked register.
• The managers would have to reboot the system, a three to five (3-5) minute.
• It was noticed that grease was building up on the touch screens, making them less responsive.
Some of the ways to correct the issues can be a simple change however there are a few that require a new and complete overhaul. The layout of the keys are not user-friendly as well as the security systems that is attached to the system is a little more secure than what the cashier needs. Having the register automatically lock after 3 minutes of inactivity and having the user is not being able to remember their username and password is some of the design false. User ID is understandable however if there was a way that the cashier could have a card and that card swipe would allow them to automatically log in. This would be a 1 Factor authentication but if they pan came up then it could be a two-factor authentication and make the system more secure than with a
