The main topic of the snapshot autobiography is having student be able to think like a historian. Historians don’t include every major detail when telling a key event in time. They include what is the most important and leave certain events out without taking away from the entire story. When students are creating their own autobiography, they are learning decision making skills by having several events that make up their story, but also being able to narrow this key events down to only a few while still effective telling their story. In their inquiry lesson, the students are presented with multiple perspectives and point of views of all parties involved in the inquiry question asked. From there, they are refining their hypothesis and leaving in only the main attributes to effectively answer the inquiry question in their final thesis statement. By having an opportunity to have a master list up on the board where students are adding to their hypothesis. The class is more of a community by being able to openly share their ideas and thoughts with one another after each data set. In the seminar that the students are participating in, they are understanding the main purpose of a seminar and the attributes to have it be engaging. By giving the students the text in advanced, they are being familiar with the text and can have ideas and questions ready before the seminar begins. Teaching is not merely about methods used and material presented in the classroom, but about shaping students’ lives to help them construct a firm foundation for a successful future. I desire to teach my students basic life skills as well as challenge them to set and reach their highest goals.
I’m sure many have shared stories of their high school experiences and can relate when I say those four years have taught me many lessons. During this time, I’d come face to face with the fraudulent friendships, temporary romances, and other high school dramas that my parents once warned me about—those of which I simply brushed off as myths. It wasn’t the 90’s anymore— times have changed and people are different—or at least, that’s what I thought.
As the pupils come more mature, they can be given tasks that require them to make their own decisions and choices. The pupils will need to be given guidance as to how they can think the process through to help them to do this.
Summer vacation, and school ends for about three months, and then you have as much fun as you can, then back to school… right? Well I had to go to summer school, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Everything was going fine, I had a job after summer school, and that was going fine as well. They say that summer is supposed to be fun and exciting, and it usually is for me and my family. However in July my father started coughing up blood. My father usually doesn’t make it his top priority to go to the doctors, so he waited about four weeks until he really didn’t feel good.
I come from two very different cultures Russian and American. Moving to the United States at age fourteen, I could recognize the differences in classes and gender in both of the cultures. But there is one fact, you can’t tell class difference by appearance.
My life started with my long and hard birth on July 14, 1993. I came into the world with a large scream and was immediately placed into some sort of category. The doctors and nurses took a quick look at me, and pronounced me as a girl. This social label of being a girl was now my gender, which is something I had no say in. Every since that very moment in time where my parents were told I was a girl, I have been treated according to my gender. This meant that my parents automatically dressed me in pink, bought me dollhouses and kitchen sets and threw me Barbie themed birthday parties. Since I was surrounded my whole entire life by these things, it was almost like second nature to think and act the way that I did and still do. My

In high school as I began exploring what career I wished to pursue, I experienced inferiority as my classmates who’ve taken the ACT three times, visited college campuses, and have had resumes ready since the 6th grade unintentionally mocked my lack of college-readiness. However, my ignorance wasn’t intentional, my parents never reached a high school education in Mexico, they couldn’t pass down SAT tips or acquire internship opportunities for me. Pictures or actual replicas can fortify a timeline for a given period of history. For example, scrutinize a photograph or an actual items from a specific place or time will bring meaning to the ELL learner. There are many experiences that one encounters in his or her lifetime, but only a few of these experiences are significant enough to leave an impact on our lives. It is safe to say that these experiences help shape us to be the person we are today. With these experiences, along with how we are raised, is what leads to our development as an individual; cognitively, emotionally, and spiritually and how we view the world and ourselves. These experiences leave a lasting impression, and we refer back to them when faced with difficult situations. Whether these experiences are good or bad can change the makeup of our identity, and internal perceptions.
I remember myself sitting near a little block with letters and my mother teaching me the name of each of them. She starts to sing me a song to help me to memorize the alphabet. It is so funny singing the ABC song. At that instant, the door opens, and my father enters the room. That is the first thing carved in my memory, and each time when I think about it, I conclude that we are the best family in the world.
As children, we absorb information and learn from experiences that mold us into who we are. Many individuals impact a child’s life, but the most powerful and influential role lies in a devoted teacher, a teacher provides growth to students as a gardener would to a garden of flowers. Each child can bloom into a thriving flower so long as you water their garden with optimism, love, patience, and guidance. Throughout my educational experiences I was lucky enough to have educators who poured their knowledge and optimism into me, and now I would like to reciprocate that back to students who are in the position I was once in. Balancing life and school is hard enough for a student, but a powerful and caring teacher can steer you in the right direction.
