2. Review of Literature Barbera (2009) and Barrett (2007) state that authentic assessment involves student engagement in the evaluation process by using authentic evidences of learning processes and outcomes. Barbera (2009) and Sadler and Good, (2006) assert that self-assessment is particularly beneficial for students, since it not only keeps them involved, interested and highly motivated in the process, but also encourages self-reflection and responsibility. It is believed that when undertaking self-assessment, students are provided with opportunity to self-reflect on learning achievements, and to regulate their academic performance and 1553 1554 Zainab Abolfazli Khonbi and Karim Sadeghi / Procedia - Social and Behavioral Sciences 70 (2013) 1552 – 1564 assessment behaviours notice his/her strengths and weaknesses and have better understandings of the subject matter, which allows follow-up modification and improvement to be made (Chang, 2008). One of the key arguments for selfselfthis is that learners are better able to set realistic goals and direct their own learning. A second argument is that in a learner-centred approach, by eva as learning does not stop outside the classroom, therefore it is of value to teach learners skills that they can transfer to other learning situations including skills in self-evaluation. Learning can be the result of many activities which can include formal classes and training sessions, on the job training and mentoring or self-study. Every time we encounter something new, there is an opportunity to learn and improve skills.
Once the students have completed the lesson, they can use all of the skills out of the classroom and into their everyday life.
One of my high school English teachers always told my class that “self assessment is the first step to all assessment”, and I must say I never really paid attention to that until after I read more about it in this course. Throughout this unit I was able to better understand the meaning behind that quote, because a person really can’t achieve much without first knowing what they are capable of. Throughout my life I’ve done a few assessments, but always brushed them off because I was too young to care. After doing a few of the assessments in the book I found myself being really surprised at the different skills I have, whether it is teamwork skills, or just basic verbal skills.
The educator and learner are both vital to the learning process in order to perform new ways that enable them to see the real world as their field of experience
Consequently, the authors focus on the most useful learners` intellectual capabilities and skills to be able to aid the learners and facilitate the learning process, "This is especially important as life expectancy has increased dramatically, especially in developed nations" ( Merriam & Caffarella, 1999)
Learning is one of important processes in human being life. It is self-evident that human development cannot stand without a proper learning. Since Learning provides unlimited Benefits, people should learn and experience it.
On taking ownership of the learning process by setting personal educational goals, and monitoring their own progress: The reason I set out to learn something is because I wish to be able to apply it to solve a particular problem. The reason I pursue a degree is because I wish to apply a specific set of skills and knowledge to the solution of many related problems, or to develop the necessary understanding to identify novel problems and then solve as much of those problems as is possible. My barometer for success is whether or not I 've gained the requisite understanding to be able to solve problems using my new knowledge.

“An assessment activity can help learning if it provides information to be used as feedback, by teachers, and by their [students] in assessing themselves
Therefore, it is teacher and student focused. An outcome, a final product or end result, speaks to the goal, so its focus is the student, because learning is the goal for the student.” In other words, the central focus is to redirect the teaching and learning process to better align with the learner. This also lines up better with professional practice, where outcomes promote quality improvement.
The educator will then build his goals based on the student’s performance, skills, and behavior. Next, the educator will develop goals based on the education material being taught. What will the student be learning about?
Aid students in understanding daily subject matters, by providing skills needed for planned lessons and training for the classroom assigned
Moreover, recent research refers to the self-assessment as an increasingly important factor of teaching English language or any second language. According to Ian Tudor, "assessment is integral to the teaching-learning process, and can be as learner-centered and motivation-based as any other form of learning". Previous research was done to emphasize the positive outcomes and the objectives of the self assessment which can be used to encourage the learners to reflect on their learning and be aware of strengths, weaknesses and further needs. It also inspires them to set goals on the basis of their evaluations. The procedure of checking their learning and progress through the self assessment may help the students to develop their learning
Learning is essential in today’s society as education becomes significant as economy advances. How each learns varies, and there are different approaches used for learning. Learning leads to enduring change in a person, and it is quite a dynamic process where the knowledge and skills to the learner are different after the learning.
In addition, it is an aid as a main constituent in making teaching more efficient as well as improving learning situation to become more properly enhanced and developed , hence, increasing students academic standards.
