Case: Tour Planning at Cirque du Soleil 1. What concrete means are used to achieve standardization? • Cirque du Soleil takes a very standardized approach. Here are some examples of how they have standardized the method in which they take their show on the road: • Specific timing when planning for future shows. Shows will be planned 5-years ahead of time when it comes to continent choice. They then follow a 2-3yr lead time when they are selecting cities to visit. The tour plan is finalized 24mo prior to the event. They are very diligent with this timing as 90% of their tours are scheduled 2-years in advance. • Consistency when working on their own or with a promoter. In either case, the expectation, absolute must, is for …show more content…
Granted, most of these decisions are made in order for performers/employee morale to stay high during all the travel and performing. But, they do seem to be getting more lenient with some of their timing in regards to tour dates. As a creative bunch, they view opportunities as a way to use their creativity to make it happen. If the opportunity is right, they will “break their rules” on timing in order to accommodate the opportunity accordingly. In this case, there seems to be a strong reason to put on a show in Turkey even though this was not part of the initial schedule. With every show, there seem to be changes in the actual breakdown and movement of the show. This is due to different processes happening at different locations including taxes, travel, replacing equipment, etc. Cirque must be flexible in order to work around these issues that may come up while they travel. As stated in the case study, “no two sites or shows are exactly the same”. 3. If you could make changes to improve this balance, what would they be? • Cirque has created a good system to take its show on tour. If there is any suggestion, I would look at two ways of how they do business. First, they should find a better way to work with promoters. It is understandable they want to make as much profit as possible per show when they travel. But, this comes at the sacrifice of doing so much more work they can delegate out to third-parties. This is especially important in

2.Now a days, concerts of famous artists are usually held in big stadiums and theaters, which brings a huge crowd of fans for affordable ticket prices and the same time, satisfies the high demanded payment for the top artists and earns a profit for the organizers of the shows. However, there are concert management companies, like Nederlander, that manages to charge higher ticket prices for small theater performances and to deliver a “sellout crowd night after night”(Video Case: Nederlander, p.1). Why is Nederlander able to do that when audiences could pay less at stadium concerts?

I believe that Kid Rock is a great business man. With his economic strategy, he can keep prices at a point where his fans, typically working class, are still able to afford and purchase tickets but, he is increasing the quaintly in the amount of tickets available, by adding additional shows. This helps shift the demand curve for his tickets. By shifting the demand curve, he is helping to decrease the scalping of his tickets and keep more money in his pocket from his fans. I think by increasing the amount of tickets available it also increases the time it takes to sell out each concert allowing more of his fans a chance and reasonably priced concert tickets. His other ideas such as platinum seating, which takes some of the best seats available

When the CEO of Ticketmaster decided to change the company’s vision to more customer-friendly, it gained the customers’ trust. The customers, venue organizers and artists saw that Ticketmaster’s management was willing to listen what they have to say and were open to make changes in order to make it better for everyone and increase profits as well as ticket sales. One of the biggest change that Ticketmaster did is to provide an interactive seating chart which allowed customers to pick their own seats instead of the best available seats picked by Ticketmaster. Another change that the company made was that the customers were allowed to pay for the tickets and print at the same time without any fees. In addition to that, Ticketmaster started not charging promoters and venue owners any fees when they were trying to promote the concert, games or theatrical venues. This was a risky move on Ticketmaster’s part; however, it paid off at the end based on an increased sales of tickets, and more artists started doing business with them. Moreover, Ticketmaster started alerting Facebook friends of the customers who are going to what show, which encouraged more people to purchase their tickets and go see whatever show their friends were going to see.
