Makeup isn't just for women now, men and kids are using it. Makeup has become so big in the past 5 years. I was not always good at makeup, well no one was. Makeup is a work in progress it’s pretty difficult. There is a lot of creativity that is in use and more. Makeup is a type of art not just a hobby. I have taught a lot of people including my mom on how to apply makeup. Makeup has no gender. Cosmetics is big now there are makeup artists on youtube and makeup bloggers. You can be as creative as you want it is whatever you make it. Makeup has also introduced me to drag queens. Drag queens are men that dress up and apply makeup like women in an exaggerated manner. This is not being transgender since drag is more performance based. So yes they perform in clubs and bars in drag. Drag queens makeup is unique. It is not for the faint of heart. Makeup in the drag world is exaggerated and even more creative. There are some crazy looks drag performers can do. These queens can now also have a bigger platform thanks to RuPaul’s Drag Race which is a TV show on VH1. Drag race is currently on its 9th season including 3 All-Stars seasons. I have also attempted drag makeup but surely it is something that you can not learn in a day. If regular makeup was difficult for me imagine drag makeup. …show more content…
The male spectrum of makeup has now gotten more popular and more public. It is accepted now more than it ever has. I am glad that i got into makeup since i have never been into art. Creativity has never been part of my life until now. I have learned a lot since getting into makeup. Although I am very confident with makeup I am very afraid to do other people’s makeup. Not because i am antisocial but because i am afraid of failure. I am afraid that the friend, family member, or other will not like my work. I have been told my makeup is “great” and “amazing” but it is just another thing i have to work
Historians believe makeup was invented by ancient Egyptians to enhance their outer beauty, however, the makeup used included lead that was known to be highly dangerous. Once the lead-based makeup was further investigated in the 20th century, it became a thing of the past. (“Color Them Extraordinary With a Makeup Career”) I believe that makeup artists have the ability to create anything out of anyone, and that they have a unique canvas to paint on; the human body. Applying and learning about makeup has been an interest of mine ever since I was little, and it only made sense to start looking into a career in the world of makeup artistry. Makeup artistry as a career interests me because I’d wake up knowing that my job for the day is exercising my creativity and help make others feel confident. If one is truly interested in makeup, this career never feels like a job. (Clark)
Did you know that makeup has been around for 12,000 years. The ancient Egyptians were the ones that invented the beautiful work of art …. Makeup. Studies show that about 44% of women are “ dependent on makeup”. What’s the purpose of makeup? Why do so many people wear it? How do you even put it on? For beginners, It’s good to know the purpose of wearing makeup, the different types of makeup, and the proper application to create a fresh- faced work of art.
This obsession with makeup is widespread and it’s extremely obvious to see the influence the cosmetic industry has had on everyday life in America. The industry has only grown throughout the years and continues to be a multi-billion dollar a year business.
It was not only till the Nineteenth century where makeup became gender inclusive to society and became a women dominated industry. As the years progressed society was conditioned to think that makeup was made for women. Outside ancient Egypt women had done above and beyond to enhance their beauty to become better suited for a mate or to be considered beautiful. Before makeup was even introduced to world, women went to the extremes of using burnt matches to darken their eyes, using berries to stain there cheeks and lips, and even swallow oxblood to improve overall complexion. And if it wasn’t for the help of social media, men would still be struggling to this day to get the cosmetic recognition that they deserve. Gender roles has always created social boundaries for not only men but for women as well.Women have also dealt with the hardship of trying to be accepted in a society. Since the nineteenth th century restraints of not being able to vote, or work has carried on to the Twentieth century. Women are taken seriously when it comes to sports or having physical strength. Till this day women are making less on their paychecks compared to men. Both genders have their disadvantages and both deal with trying to break the labels that have been created. A new societal culture is happening and regardless of gender the traditional constraints that have been created it is becoming less significant in not only the
Furthermore, another racial issue we continue to experience in our world is in the makeup industry. Makeup has developed in an extremely way in just a short amount of time; its influence is very powerful. Not only enhances makes people feel beautiful but also, it’s a different form
Social changes include the breaking down of social, racial and gender based barriers. This has led to a more accepting audience where makeup, normally worn by women, is now worn by male artists such as KISS and Little Richard.
Have you ever thought about who created makeup? Or how it was created? When, where and how? Why was it created? How has it changed over time? Has it affected anyone? Well I’m going to tell you some of it. Make up wasn’t just created by powder or anything small and simple like that, no. Makeup actually has a lot of its own differences. In 180 BCE was when makeup had first had started but it wasn’t commonly used as much as then. People would limit the use of makeup because it was so expensive and hard to get and or find. The women who actually had it or used it were the prostitutes and the wealthier women. The “Cheap Knockoff’s” were the ones who were sold to the poorer women. The people didn’t really care if the slaves used makeup but
Although makeup is normally classified as a women’s product, in this day and age, there are men that enjoy wearing it anyway, so creating a product that was basically the same thing, just labelled
On July 2015, a popular beauty Youtuber named NikkieTutorials shared a video about the “power of makeup.” She stood up to the makeup critics who claims that women only wearing it to impress men or hide their insecurities. In response, Nikkie decided to make one half of her face “full-on flame” and leave the other half “raw, unedited, nothing, me.” Since then, other women who have been inspired to share their love for makeup start posting similar photos of their own half made-up faces. Makeup is universal and it is used by women and men who want to look pretty all over the world. It is an enjoyment for them to become prettier instead of a thing they need to be shameful for. However, beauty is a reflection of cultural perceptions and ideas
Like most girls, I was infatuated with makeup from a young age. Mainly lipsticks and the application of foundation. I remember always looking at women older than me to see how they had applied their makeup. Like, what color eyeshadow they were wearing, how cakey their foundation was applied (and if it even matched their true skin color), and just how much makeup was on their face in general. The majority of the time I was confused as to what look they were trying to achieve, what with their eyebrows looking like drawn on worms and wearing an excessive amount of blue eyeshadow was apparently a good idea. There were times when I saw the occasional “normal” woman wearing just the right amount of makeup and it brought some faith into me that not all makeup applications are bad applications.
Something about me that I not only love to do, but also makes me who I am is makeup. Makeup should not about disguising yourself or giving yourself a “new face”. Makeup to me is enhancing things on my face that I want to make stand out. Along with beauty makeup, I genuinely enjoy doing theater makeup and often get hired for kid’s birthday parties and most recently got to do the costume makeup for a friend’s musical. Coming to the high school, I’m very interested in being involved with the musicals and the stage makeup. I have always viewed makeup as a form of expression rather than something to do to attract people’s attention. That being said, it’s not something that I rely on everyday because some days I may just not want to wear any or I
“Makeup has been used to enhance the beauty of both men and women for over thousand years. It its through teaching others how to apply makeup, we can strive to help others feel comfortable and confident in their own skin. Wearing makeup help embrace our natural features and may also help express the ideas in a creative way like art.”
Makeup only used to be for men and women to enhance their beauty. Now makeup is still used for that very same reason but it’s for themselves, because they aren’t trying to impress anyone but themselves. From 3000 B.C. men wore wigs and makeup to make them more eye catching. All women would use makeup to make themselves prettier and so did men. The egyptians were the first people to create cosmetics. They wore it for special occasions like festivals or celebrations. They also would put themselves at risk because of the things they were putting on there face to make them look more beautiful. Things like: using burnt matches for eyeliner, they would use berries for their lip stains, they would try to make their face paler (because it was deemed more beautiful that way) with leeches, arsenic, mercury and lead (Gardner). They didn’t have to do that though because Disney
On a regularly basis women are judged for their appearance everywhere they may go. Whether it is by other woman or men, there are always negative remarks said about women. This is usually the reason why woman chose to wear make, to feel better about themselves during every occasion and enhance and array the beauty they already have. Of course, it is not necessary for woman to wear, but woman still do it because it makes them feel better. It is a form of great art used to elevate the beauty each woman has. It is also true that each year women spend up to hundreds of dollars at cosmetics stores buying different types of makeup to surpass their appearance, but for a good cause. There are cosmetics available to enhance just about every facial feature that includes the whole face, eyes, nose lips and and checks.
