Students throughout Traughber have been continuously trying to earn the privilege to use our cell phones in the cafeteria, and now we have to demand our satisfaction from the school board. This proposal's objective is not to make the school look like a prison because of the current policy, but to show how Traughber would benefit from loosening the restrictions on cell phone usage during non educational-periods. Traughber Junior High students were interviewed on March 9th, 2016, and it was discovered that 95% of the participating students had a cell phone. Adolescents are obsessed with their cell phones, and they are so preoccupied that it causes trouble in classrooms across the school. As a seventh grader who does use a cell phone, this writer has to admit that he could cut back on how much he uses it, but other students are so attached that they can not even put down their phone. People who oppose this proposal have every right to believe this, but there actually is another side to it. Less talking can be beneficial at times in a Junior High. From experience, this writer knows that lunchtime can be a time where friendships are disrupted. This can lead to fist fights and bullying, which can be prevented with the creation of a new policy because students will be using their phones instead of spewing negative comments about each other. Also, the survey results indicate that 63% of the students surveyed said that the time they spend talking would actually increase during lunch. This may seem contrary to the previous paragraph, however it does not promise a completely silent lunchroom, but instead it promotes something that a lunch supervisor thinks that they can only dream of: a quieter cafeteria than our current
