In determining whether children are capable of assenting, the IRB will take into account the ages, maturity, and psychological state of the children involved. This judgment may be made for all children to be involved in research under a particular protocol, or for each child, as the IRB deems appropriate.
When interacting with children, use language the child can understand and present concepts in a way the child can grasp. Researchers should also take care that the child does not feel pressured by the researcher as an adult (authority figure) or by the child’s parent, guardian, or legal representative—other authority figures.
In studies that involve more than minimal risk, obtain consent from both parents, if possible. (See “Studies with *Children*—More than Minimal Risk.") For minimal risk studies, consent from one parent is sufficient. It is important to make judgements on a child’s development in order to see if they require additional help or support. Practitioners must ensure judgements are based on actual information recorded and should also bear in mind opinions from parents/carers, colleagues, and other professionals. Practitioners may need to explain why they have formed an opinion but must be prepared to have an open mind if others disagree.
When working with young people it is always important to be able to work with other agencies from different professionals so that we can meet the young people`s needs. The wishes and feelings of children must be identified, taken account of and respected, I always make sure young people are included in decision making and their opinion in things that relates to them for instance during the young people`s meeting one young person prefers to do the writing and I give her the chance to do so and when attending her first scan she only wanted her boyfriend her and his family to be there and we had to respect that and allow her to come and tell us about it on her return.
Child C is a seven year old boy. It is important at this stage of my intervention to be aware of the issues regarding the ways in which our society treats people at such a young age. It is difficult for a child’s voice to be heard; therefore it is essential that I listen and advocate on his behalf if necessary.

When the children are incapable, nurses have moral responsibility to assist parents in decision making in the children's best interest. Hirschi’s social bond theory is made up of four basic elements; attachment, commitment, involvement and belief. The element of attachment has to do with one’s involvement in society, and the bonds they form with others. Social bond theory is based on the idea that deviancy occurs in an individual when social connections are weak or non-existent, the element of attachment has to do with the bonds one forms with individuals or institutions. Attachment acts as an indirect control factor, as attachment determines one’s status in society, which in turn determines how much social capital one possesses. When communicating with children, it is important to talk at their level while maintaining eye contact and use positive body language. We must give them time to understand and absorb what is being said to them. This will make the children feel respected and develop trust and thus they will feel confident to communicate with us. The child’s learning and development will benefit if the adults in their life can communicate effectively about them.
When carrying out observations you must take account of the child’s wishes and feelings if a child is upset or wants you to stop then you must stop.
There are many theories that try to explain why crime is committed. There's the strain theory, the Social disorganization theory, the Different association theory and many others. But the one that I think best explains why crime is committed is the social bond theory. It is very straightforward and it explains what leads to a crime. The social bond theory states that a person's view toward a society determines if a person will be a criminal or not. This theory has some downsides to it but I will try to defend it against some theories. I will also try to defend this theory against some criticism.
The two theories I have decided to merge are Agnew’s General Strain Theory and Hirschi’s Social Bond Theory. I picked General Strain Theory because it does a good job at discussing some of the things that can trigger the release of a person’s negative emotions which in turn may lead to deviant behavior. I also decided to write about Social Bond Theory because it describes some of the factors that keep people from committing crime.
