Magazines are popular in the United States; they can be found in stores, offices, and houses. They are popular for advertising. Television, news, radio, billboards and online websites are just a few forms of media that companies use to advertise their products or services. Companies use advertisements to influence the consumer to either buy or use their products and services. Advertisements are used to manipulate consumers in many ways.
According to the textbook, mass communication is “communication to a large group or groups of people that remain largely unknown to the sender of the message.” To go into more details, we communicate every single day, but normally to just one or two people that we happen to know. When it comes to mass communication, we could be speaking to the world or the public about an issue that we would like to address. For instance, when we go on social media, or watch the news, that would be an example of mass communication because it is speaking to a large number of audience instead of directly to just one person. It is making a message to a group of people.

The mass media greatly influence the behavior and thoughts of citizens and policymakers, and has a great impact on policy agenda. The mass media includes television, radio, newspapers, magazines, the Internet, and other means of popular communication. There are two kinds of media; print media, which includes newspapers and magazines, and electronic media, which includes television, radio, and the Internet. There are various positives and negatives of the media and its relation to the public and to policymaking.
There are three cultural products I have viewed, read, or otherwise interacted that are examples of distinct forms of mass media. The first, is a weekly television show that airs on NBC called This Is Us, another is a national broadcast which Pastor Joel Olsteen preaches which airs networks on USA and TBN, and lastly the infamous President Donald Trump and the American people, versus the National Football League. These three cultural products/issues are examples of mass media, however some of them are cleverly written dialog for television which millions of viewers engage in and some are web based material which have gone viral for millions of viewer’s entertainment and/or are sources of information.
Three forms of mass media that I have interacted with recently are the book State of Fear by Michael Crichton, the film Spiderman, and the internet series RWBY, each of these is in a distinct sphere of mass media, State of Fear is print publishing, Spiderman is in broadcast media and RWBY is in the sphere of digital media.
Mass media has come a long way from where it first started, from someone belting out the news, to the written form of mass media such as the newspaper where it could reach the masses and inform them of what is going on around them, to the now where most news are obtain using the internet via smart phone, tablet or television, as along as an individual has Wi-Fi, internet service they can obtain their desired information from anywhere in the world.

Mass Media has had a tremendous growth since the first days of newspapers. People now get their news more quickly and from several types of media. The mass media developments have had both positive and negative impacts on the American culture. The convergence of media has affected people’s everyday lives. Some of the mass media developments in the last century include radio station, television, cell phones and Facebook. Each one of these developments have had an influence on the American Culture.
Mass media involves communicating on a large scale. This can include written, spoken, visual, and digital. Written mass media platforms include newspapers, magazines, and books. Spoken mass media consists of conferences, concerts, and radio. Visual may involve television shows, commercials, movies, and theater. Digital media involves all of the other types of media broadcast to reach an even broader audience via the internet. Over the last century, consumers have experienced the privilege of seeing radio, television, personal computers and the internet, and smartphones and other electronic mobile devices take the place of spreading information by face-to-face verbal communication and written media forms like telegraph and newspapers.
The Mass Media is an important feature of modern society; its development has undoubtedly been a core factor to rapid social and technological change and also to the rise in personal income and standard of life as well as the decline of some social traditions. Mass media can be defined as venues for messages that are created for consumption by large numbers of people. It is a term used to denote a section of the media specifically envisioned and designed to reach a very large audience such as the population of a nation state.
3. Media Decisions: After finishing the creation of the message we must decide what reach and frequency are needed to achieve advertising objectives. We decided to expose our advert in magazines but also outdoor on billboards. The advantage of using magazines is that they have high geographic and demographic selectivity, they are long life and they have good pass-along readership. As for the billboards they have high exposure are easily noticed and the cost is low.

Some people also refer to it as the “mainstream media,” referencing the fact that it tends to stick to prominent stories which will be of interest to a general audience, sometimes ignoring controversial breaking news. Many people around the world rely on this form of media for news and entertainment, and globally, it is a huge industry.
