The NZFC budget is made up of the following; Government funding , Lottery Grants Board (6.5% of Lotteries Commission profits), film income, interest and reserves. The Department of the Internal Affairs gave funding to the NZFC in order to “cover administrative costs and an annual grant from the Lottery Board.” Funding allowed the NZFC to “encourage and also to participate and assist in the making, promotion, distribution, and exhibitions of films.” This enhanced their success of promoting NZ films in the NZFI. Few people in the cast had experienced acting in feature films, meaning everyone had to learn on the job. Even people who weren’t actors had a small role in the film.
