The NZFC budget is made up of the following; Government funding , Lottery Grants Board (6.5% of Lotteries Commission profits), film income, interest and reserves. The Department of the Internal Affairs gave funding to the NZFC in order to “cover administrative costs and an annual grant from the Lottery Board.” Funding allowed the NZFC to “encourage and also to participate and assist in the making, promotion, distribution, and exhibitions of films.” This enhanced their success of promoting NZ films in the NZFI. Also, the law has required the NZFC to have NZ content in their films “which could be determined by the ‘subject’ of the film, the shooting locations, site of technical facilities and the ‘nationalities and places of residence’ of …show more content…
Few people in the cast had experienced acting in feature films, meaning everyone had to learn on the job. Even people who weren’t actors had a small role in the film.
The NZFC was established because they wanted to build “an indigenous motion picture industry”, as well as promoting “cinematograph expressions particular to New Zealand’, which would ‘counter the largely unrelieved diet of films from foreign cultures’, serve as a means of national self - understanding, and increase awareness of New Zealand’s regional role.” Minister Highet argues that “New Zealand films” were full of “cultural value which interpret the New Zealand experience to New Zealanders”. The NZFC success “could be gauged in terms of public discourse” the ‘widespread and positive public discussion not only of the films themselves but also the subjects and attitudes revealed on the screen, and how these can lead to a better understanding of the New Zealand character and way of life”. The Piano (1993) is a film directed by Jane Campion, one of the most respected and successful directors today. This film is a successful film as it not only grossed US $34 million after 5 months of its release but also, the film itself had “recognisable images” such as the grand piano stranded on a NZ beach, a muted mother and her daughter sent to NZ and the finger chopping at the end. This was
Boxer is a fictional horse in George Orwell’s Animal Farm, which is a satire of the Russian Revolution. Many characters allude to different groups or important people from this era, and this applies to Boxer as well. Boxer is a representation of the working class because of his qualities, personality, his role in the novel and his motto. Orwell expresses much criticism towards the character of Boxer because he lets Napoleon think for him.
Some athletes do extra things to help them win, whether it be for a football player doing extra work outs, or taking steroids to a baseball player staying late from practice to work on his hit. In wrestling, some people do drastic things to help them be the best. “Kyle Talley of St. Mark’s, a state champion at 145 pounds last year, now wrestles at 152 pounds, about six pounds lighter than his natural weight” (Tresolini). Many wrestlers use unhealthy ways to cut weight; … “of 713 high school wrestlers studied in Wisconsin, almost half revealed weight cutting habits that included two or more forms of bulimic-type behavior such as food and water deprivation, laxatives or induced vomiting” (Tresolini). While
At the beginning of seventh grade, I would always joke around that I would do wrestling, like with all the other guys. Later on that year when wrestling season was starting I decided to sign up. I didn’t know what being in wrestling was going to be like because it would be like nothing I’ve ever done before.
Boxing Should Not be Banned In recent years, there have been many campaigns to try and have boxing
Boxing is one of the top sports you can wager on. Big fights don’t happen every week, so this is the ideal sport for the casual gambler. Everybody loves a big punt on a massive fight, and given that anything can happen in a boxing ring, it makes the prospect of betting on boxing all so exciting.
I started wrestling in sixth grade. Even though I didn’t win one of my first seven matches, I developed into a successful wrestler. In high school I won tournaments and beat high-quality wrestlers. During my junior year I was determined to become a great wrestler. I worked harder than ever and didn’t let anyone stop me. That year I lost the Illinois state wrestling tournament championship match by one point. Over the next six months between my junior and senior season I was runner up at AAU national tournament and wrestled at Disney Land in Florida at the Disney Duals with over 50 other teams and only lost 1 of 8 matches. These are a few of my achievements in high school. Now that I am in college there are many
In some cases Australian films do receive the budget it desires and a film can be advertised around the globe. “Australia” is a prime example – it was marketed so extensively that everybody felt they needed to see it as it would become a topic of conversation amongst all. However this movie for some film scholars proved to be a way for the tourism department to promote Australia.
First of all, imperialism impacted China by changing their ideology and affecting their nationalism. When China became imperialized, their identity changed by following the traditions and the law of the nations. The chinese were unsatisfied with the nation’s ideologies and rules, which lead to The Boxer Rebellion in 1899. A secret society, Righteous Harmonious Fists, lead rebellions around the country. In document two Western Perspective, it portrays Germany’s point of view of The Boxer Rebellion. Wilhelm II thinks the chinese have overturned their laws, neglecting their cultural beliefs. This is important because China is deciding to ignore the Nation’s laws and their Ideology. Even Though the chinese knew they would receive consequences, they still renegaded to have pride for their country.
David Flincher's movie, Fight Club, shows how consumerism has caused the emasculation of the modern male and reveals a tale of liberation from a corporate controlled society. Society's most common model of typical man is filthy, violent, unintelligent, immature, sexist, sex hungry, and fundamentally a caveman. In essence Tyler Durden, is the symbolic model for a man. He is strong enough to withstand from society's influences and his beliefs to remain in tact. Jack, the narrator, on the other hand is the opposite. He is a weak, squeamish, skinny man who has not been able to withstand society's influence; therefore, he is the Ikea fetish. Unlike Tyler, Jack is weak minded. Both Jack and Tyler are polar opposite models of

The poor distribution of Australian films has made it difficult for the public to view these said films, due to the lack of theatres screening the actual pictures. This contributes to the community of the Australian public to collectively be unaware of these films and leads to the small number of tickets sold in cinemas. With this lack of money being spent on Australian films, the industry suffers due to with no return going into the
“The first rule about fight club is that you don’t talk about fight club” (Palahniuk 87). The story of Fight Club was very nail biting; you never knew what was going to happen next. There were so many things that led up to a complete plot twist. It was amazing how closely directed and written Chuck Palahniuk and David Fincher’s versions were. However, the role in both that stood out to me the most was the role of Marla. Marla was the biggest influence in discovering the narrator (or Jack’s) identity.
Chuck Palahniuk’s Fight Club is a seductive novel which chronicles an unnamed narrator’s ability to cope with an emasculated, self-centered, materialistic society by creating an alter ego. Throughout the text, the theme of the emasculated modern man is presented both in the life of the narrator, and in the lives of the male characters he surrounds himself with. Through notions of absent fathers, consumerism and an innocuous/aimless existence, Palahniuk presents how men in modern society have lost their masculine identity and the extreme actions they go to in order to obtain it again.
