? This paper will discuss the types of academic concepts. There are many academic concepts, however only four of these concepts will be addressed. The first academic concept addressed is Kolb learning style. Kolb learning style can be broken up into four categories such as accommodating, assimilating, converging, and diverging. The second concept P.O.W.E.R. Learning, which stands for prepare, organize, work, and rethink. These concepts will help establish success goals academically. (Jimerson, S. R., & Haddock, A. D., 2015, p. 490). Success is defined as the favorable or prosperous termination of attempts or endeavors; the accomplishment of one's goals. Set goals that relate to the high priorities in your life. Without this type of focus, you can end up with far too many goals, leaving you too little time to devote to each one. Goal achievement requires commitment, so to maximize the likelihood of success, you need to feel a sense of urgency and have an "I must do this" attitude. When you don't have this, you risk putting off what you need to do to make the goal a reality. This in turn leaves you feeling disappointed and frustrated with yourself, both of which are de-motivating. And you can end up in a very destructive "I can't do anything or be successful at anything" frame of mind. Accept personal responsibility for their college experience by knowing how they learn and how their learning preference affects their interactions with teachers. Actively listening, manage time effectively, take effective notes, and prepare well for examinations, present clear, well-organized written and oral reports. Assuring one?s success requires setting goals and develops strategies to achieve those goals. Develop competencies for dealing with issues of cultural diversity and how "culture" impacts their college career. Identify resources that are available on campus and in the community that can assist with problems related to academics, health, social life, financial aid, and other issues.
