The excerpt from Leslie Bell’s “Hard to Get: Twenty-Something Women and the Paradox of Sexual Freedom” explains the reality of how the expectation of sexual exploration for women in their twenties plays a reverse role on their behaviors and actually limits them. Bell thus groups female attitudes and behaviors in regards to their interaction with sexuality and relationships. She categorizes women into one of three: the sexual woman, the relational woman, and the desiring woman. Although this could result in a possible loss of individualism by grouping women and their experiences into three groups, and Bell acknowledges this, but insists that it provides an opportunity to study how women can share the same behaviors in a sexually confusing era.

A few things became apparent. First there were some behaviors that were sexual but were not intimate. It is a fascinating article that discusses the phenomenon of female ejaculation. The women in this study explicate their ejaculation fluids and just how this shakes their sexual identities. It is not known the origins of their sexual fluids. Each woman had a different level of stimulation to ejaculate, and it was found to happen individually from orgasm for some womenfolk. The author believed that this was a phenomenon that needed to be researched in more depth; hence, this study supports the fact that female ejaculation is a common experience for many women, and offers different areas for further investigation. I do believe in the myths of this articles because they are true. I have always been thought that a relationship becomes strong with communication. I was always awkward sexually, I don’t mean awkward in the sense of performing coitus but rather everything else. Before this class I thought about the topics we covered in a broad sense and probably not very often. After taking this class I was forced to look deeper into each topic, and while I disagree with some things, I am glad I will be able to hold a conversation about why I disagree. I am born and raised Catholic so I know what view I am supposed to have on each topic, but I’d catch myself feeling guilty because my views were more often than not slightly different than the Church’s teachings. I needed to remind myself that it is okay I have a different opinion, as long as I accept the Church’s opinion as well. Of the topics we talked about, I found cohabitation as the most important/interesting and I found contraception as the most controversial. In this paper I will focus on contraception in premarital sex which can also be happening in cohabiting relationships, so it in a way all connects.

Human sexuality is a topic that is difficult for me to discuss. It has only been recently that I feel a little comfortable speaking with my peers about sex. Similar to others, my life experiences have formed my views on the topic of sexuality. Through my development, my understanding of sex and its components have changed dramatically; however, I continue to grow every day. My life experiences are the basis of my future sex counseling with clients; therefore, I need to increase my comfort level in the areas that I lack knowledge.
