Among a lot of coffee shops, Starbucks, Tim Horton, and Second Cup are the biggest and the most popular franchisers in Canada. For this project, I have decided to open a coffee shop that serves regular and specialty coffee, and small pastry items that is located in a prominent neighborhood near a train station or a high foot traffic area. Coffee has become a popular beverage where it is not just needed in the mornings but throughout the day, whether they are on their way to work or just to sit and relax. I am a coffee drinker myself and it is uncommon to find a coffee place that has a warm, home feeling atmosphere. It is important to have one of these types of coffee shop in any neighborhood. My goal is to provide every customer coffee and pastry whether

Currently, The Broadway Café is the only coffee shop in the area. However, recently, there have been postings that a Starbucks plans to move within the vicinity of our business. To improve the business and create a competitive advantage, we must first, research the competition through environment scanning (Baltzan & Phillips, 2007). Environmental scanning is the acquisition and analysis of events and trends in the environment external to an organization (Baltzan & Phillips, 2007). After reviewing the website of two competitors, Starbucks.com (2010) and Panera.com (2010), it appears these businesses are technologically advanced. The first step this Café must make is to install computers to provide accurate record keeping and store information. We have to develop a plan for employees that create an environment of respect and dignity in which leads by example and gives back to

Starbucks extends their coffee experience to everyone: kids, teenagers and adults. Part of their success comes from their ability to create new products that fit the culture of the country. In Japan, for instance, Starbucks launched green tea lattes, which later became popular in other countries (Allison). Starbucks is well established in countries like Canada, Japan, and the United Kingdom. In the US alone, Starbucks sells 4 million cups of coffee per day (Horovitz). Their products and services have transformed the way customers view coffee. Changing the way customers order, Starbucks makes it very chic to purchase custom drinks. Starbucks is like no other coffee shop: the dimmed lights
