I emphatically believe its valid important to use personal stories and other parables we may have heard to increase the effectiveness in our evangelic messages. In my personal journey as I heard the message it was the most impactful throughout heard the personal stories of the messenger who share the message. Personal stories definitely bring impact the lives of the listeners and give them greater understanding and as well give them a modern-day model of biblical relevant results on how one’s upholding authoritative biblical truths.

Great illustration of this is found in Matthew 13, we see Jesus gives some amazing parables (personal stories) and in verses 53-54 we see the effects of them and it states, “When Jesus had finished these parables, he moved on from there. Coming to his hometown, he began teaching the people in their synagogue, and they were amazed. “Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?” they asked” . Through my fulfilling the Great Commission Assignment, I have witness great number of people responding to the invitation of salvation by combining my personal stories with the message.

Its exceptionally substantial we have our messages energized with divine truths that carry the weight with scriptural precision. I can personally witness the effects of listening, sharing messages that is designed for practical living and create some wonderful results that’s literally biblical-related results. John Stott put it in such an insightful way, “We must allow the Word of God to confront us, to disturb our security, to undermine our complacency and to overthrow our patterns of thought and behavior.
Chapter four examines the methods Jesus used to teach and spread his messages about the Kingdom of God. Jesus’s primary audience was the common people of first-century Galilee, so he had to adopt creative techniques to teach uneducated people about an unknown “fantastic” topic, the Kingdom of God. His strategy was successful; amassing a great amount of followers and started the foundation of modern Christianity. The methods he utilized, includes teaching through parables, debates and including examples with miracles and enacted parables.
There are three stories from Jesus' Galilean ministry that stick out to me. The stories that stick out to me are, The Sermon on the Mount, the story of the Pharisees trying to trick Christ, and the third is the story of when Jesus fed 5,000 people! All these stories show the power of God and the transparent teachings of Christ.
Evangelism is a passion of mine and this semester has helped me to develop more as a person and strengthen my passion for evangelism. Usually when you hear the word Evangelism most of the time, you will start to fear because of rejection. During my Christian walk, sometimes I have experienced the fear of rejection as it relates to Evangelism. However, this semester has taught me not to fear." Evangelism is standing up for your faith even if everyone else remains seated 1(Earley and Wheeler
When trying to understand what Evangelism I think D.T. Niles may have been close to the mark when he said “Christianity is one beggar telling another beggar where to find food”. Change the word Christianity to Evangelism, beggar to the sinner, and food to Jesus and I believe you have possibly the easiest way to explain Evangelism simply by saying “Evangelism is one sinner telling another sinner where to find Christ. However, over the past years Evangelism has been in my opinion misconstrued with many other Christian words and trends. For instance, I would be willing to bet that if you asked Christians what is the first thing that they think of when they hear the word Evangelism most would respond with the name of and Evangelist such as Billy Graham, Charles Stanley or even Joel Olsten. Of course the word Evangelist has had the same problem that the word Evangelism has had in regards to losing the true intended meaning of the world. It seems that Christians now days have forgotten that all born again believers are Evangelist, not just those who show up in a small town with a tent, a band, and a sign that says revival. Every soul that becomes saved becomes a messenger of the good news. In fact, I believe with all my heart this is the exact message the Jesus was trying to convey in his followers when he gave the great commissioning in Matthew 28:18-20 NIV 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make
This book is a powerful medicine for an plague of boring preaching. The construct of Putting the Truth to Work is in two sections that are divided by a brief interval. The first part of the book consists of the nature, sources, and methods of perceiving biblical applications. The second part gives
In President Monson talk he talks about how to communicate. This made me think on why he would be giving a talk about this. As I was able to read thru his talk I was able to get my answer in so many ways. He talks about how Jesus when he would talk to people that he would do it in parables. His disciples asked him why, and this was his answer saying “because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.” This made me think. He goes on and speaks and explains even more why Jesus used parables and this is what he said he used parables, to “conveyed to the hearer religious truth exactly in proportion to the hearer’s faith and intelligence.” Then he say that “the parable is suited alike
The first question I would like to discuss is why are personal testimonies important in sharing the gospel? I feel that personal testimonies are important in sharing the gospel because they serve as a starting point of conversations.
Non-believers are lost but many still feel that void, and Satan usually takes advantage and deceives the mind into filling that void with sin. Sin is present in everyone’s life but with Jesus Christ as our savior we are saved and forgiven. Testimonies give encouragement; it’s a real life present day example of Gods everlasting love for us. When someone hears your testimony it helps them open up for God to work in their lives. I personally have encountered many hardships, at one point many would tell you I had all the odds stacked against me. There came a time where it seemed easier to give up and to give in to the world around me, but I clung to my savior, to the words of truth found in the Bible. When life itself seemed impossible, I kept on believing and having faith. I knew God had reason and meaning for everything. Which he did, I experienced a breakthrough that transformed my life. The breakthrough is apparent to many. I wouldn’t change a thing, because God walked with me through the valley. I don’t think I would be as appreciative as I am if it hadn’t been for all the pain. In fact I feel very blessed to personally be able to say I have experienced God and his saving grace in the way that I have. At one point people may have just overlooked or judged me but now I have the ability to relate and give hope and proof that God is in control. So that others will take that step of faith and
As he addresses extensively the subject of evangelism, it appears that Fay is very confident that is book is well needed due to the “sin of silence” that has gripped the Church and the body of Christ, in general. He has a powerful style that uses examples from his personal life and experiences to shows his reader that it is easy to share the Gospel. He also uses witnessing examples from the lives of various Christians to show the readers that they too can share the gospel without fear. He advocates a simple and non-confrontational approach to evangelism and states that God can use even imperfect attempts to share the Gospel. What God cannot use is the Christian’s silence about the Gospel.
Currently, I am serving in a mission field, my campus, as each day I have been given access to academic scholars, staff, and students who represent different cultures and religions. Our campus is a revolving door that allows for opportunities to share the gospel. While accepting Christ in my late 30’s I did not understand His love or forgiveness for many years. It is through these truths of His love that I can speak with conviction of His love for all people. Aided through the leading of the Holy Spirts, and the life lessons learned, I can speak of the saving grace of God, His love and His desire for all to know Jesus as Lord, and Savior. It is through God’s guidance and His Word that allows me to share His promises to those who are lost and
Critique Questioning Evangelism, a book by Randy Newman about evangelism, was well written to present another way of sharing the gospel that can rejuvenate the witnessing process. The point of the book is to evaluate the way Christians are thinking and present them with new ways to think. Newman presented his material in a well and convincing way by providing examples and insights into sharing the gospel by questioning non-Christians. Multiple insights that Newman presented spiked my own interest and challenged me to apply these ideas to my own evangelistic journey.
The direct teachings of Jesus give instructions of how to live as Christians and the Parables were used in the Gospel to immediately confront us with a truth and evoke a change. (Fee & Stuart,2003, p. 152). The five major discourses of Matthew’s Gospel are centred around five lengthy Sermons using parables to make a point and call the people to make a change.
This course has had a great impact on my walk with Christ as well as my witness for Christ. I pastor a church and teach two classes and for me I thought that I was doing plenty. However this course has helped rekindle my passion for sharing Jesus Christ with people through personal evangelism. This paper will demonstrate what I have learned throughout this course.
The importance of parables to Christians is a substantial amount; this is because they use them as basic principles to live by and they help them to detect what is wrong and what is right. However, parables can be useful and should be important to all people as they contain very important life lessons and are very good things to live by. Christians also find them important because Jesus said them.
‘It is meant to make people think – even think furiously – and to issue in decision and action’ (Hunter 1976, 13) ‘And sometimes such vivid analogies so catch the public mind that they pass into public parlance’ (Etchells 1998, 1) It is no wonder that the reason people still like to use stories to illustrate teaching today is because of these facts. Etchells in particular brings out a very interesting point in that Jesus would surely have wanted his teaching to reach more than just the people directly listening. Stories are easy for people to both remember and remember accurately, making it more likely for his teaching to spread even before it became codified. We can learn greatly from this. If we really want our listeners to engage with the Gospel we need to preach it to them in a way that will help them engage. Telling those parables that force them to think for themselves and remember what they have been taught will help to carry the message of the teacher back into the listeners’ daily lives, rather than just hearing the message and
