J.D. Salinger: Biography

Jerome David Salinger was born in 1919 in New York and passed away in 2010. The Catcher in the Rye, published in 1951, won critical acclaim and was hugely popular among youth readers. Salinger served in the war in the 1940s, and upon his return, most of his works were published in The New Yorker. The Catcher in the Rye, as mentioned above, is semi-autobiographical. Salinger became quite the recluse in his later years, which fueled plenty of speculation among his admirers. The novel continues to have an impact on its readers well into the twenty-first century. However, it has been banned a number of times due to its language and sexual content.
