Question
Subordinates who have worked or are working with Mr. Moro wonder why management have continued to ignore their complaints about his sternness on the job. They are of the view that it does not make them feel comfortable on the job. They indicated that he does not show empathy towards them when they have challenges. For instance, one of them indicated that she once called Mr. Moro to inform him of her inability to report for duty that day. That was because the mother was taken ill suddenly and had to rush her to the hospital. After narrating her situation, he only asked her to choose between caring for the mother or the job. A management member suggested that management had no issues with Mr. Moro because the company had witnessed a steady improved performance under him. He indicated that they engaged him because they needed someone to help turn the fortunes of the company around which almost went bankrupt under Mr. Joromi. Thus, they had no issues with him once he delivered on the mandates and set targets. Mr. Joromi was very sympathetic towards the course of subordinates. He was quick to grant subordinates permission to stay off the job anytime they informed him of not being well. Others came in with concerns such as needing time to go and search for accommodation, attend funerals of relatives, care for sick relatives among others. Under him the company missed most time lines in supplying products to clients. Few employees were made to perform the duties of many. Some even report to duty and leave far earlier than expected. All one needed to do was to find a nice story to share with him and he/she was free to leave. Required: a. Explain the leadership orientation of Mr. Moro. b. Discuss Two (2) situations under which Mr. Moro’s leadership style is appropriate. c. Explain the leadership orientation of Mr. Joromi d. Discuss Two (2) situations under which Mr. Joromi’s leadership orientation is appropriate. e. State Three (3) differences between the leadership orientations of Mr. Moro and Mr. Joromi.
