Boiling point is the temperature at which the vapor pressure of the liquid is equal to the atmospheric pressure above it. The boiling point of a substance depends on the pressure and can vary with changes in pressure.
For example, at sea level, the boiling point of water is 100 degrees Celsius (212 degrees Fahrenheit), but at higher altitudes where the atmospheric pressure is lower, the boiling point of water is lower as well. Conversely, at higher pressures, such as in a pressure cooker, the boiling point of water can be higher than 100 degrees Celsius.
