Explanation of Solution

Independent variables are the changes that are changed deliberately by the researcher in an experiment. An example of independent variables includes changes in the concentration of a solution.

The correlation does not prove that causation is described in the given example. When a researcher measures diabetes and obesity levels, the researcher compares two dependent variables. Individuals who are not obese tend to have diabetes. Just because an obese individual has diabetes does not correlate that obesity causes diabetes. Therefore, the correlation between dependent variables does not prove causation.
