Master data management (MDM) refers to the disciplines, technologies, and methods to ensure the currency, meaning, and quality of reference data within and across various subject areas of MDM approaches and technologies, it is important for firms to acknowledge that master data are a key strategic asset for a firm. It is therefore imperative that MDM projects have the appropriate level of executive buy-in and be treated as enterprise-wide initiatives. MDM projects also need to work closely with ongoing data quality and data governance initiatives. There are three popular architectures for master data management: identity registry, integration hub, and persistent.
