Exercise 17-26 (Static) Sales Mix and Quantity Variances (LO 17-4) A-Zone Media sells two models of e-readers. The budgeted price per unit for the wireless model is $192 and the budgeted price per unit for the wireless and cellular model is $416. The master budget called for sales of 10,000 wireless models and 2,500 wireless and cellular models during the current year. Actual results showed sales of 7,500 wireless models, with a price of $200 per unit, and 4,000 wireless and cellular models, with a price of $400 per unit. The standard variable cost per unit is $80 for a wireless model and $160 for a wireless and cellular model.   Required: a. Compute the activity variance for these data.b. Compute the mix and quantity variance for these data.
EXERCISE 10–6 Direct Materials and Direct Labor Variances [LO10–1, LO10–2]   Huron Company produces a commercial cleaning compound known as Zoom. The direct materialsand direct labor standards for one unit of Zoom are given below: [picture] During the most recent month, the following activity was recorded: a. Twenty thousand pounds of material were purchased at a cost of $2.35 per pound. b. All of the material purchased was used to produce 4,000 units of Zoom. c. 750 hours of direct labor time were recorded at a total labor cost of $10,425. Required:1. Compute the materials price and quantity variances for the month.2. Compute the labor rate and efficiency variances for the month.
Exercise 16-46 (Algo) Fixed Cost Variances (LO 16-6) Paynesville Corporation manufactures and sells a preservative used in food and drug manufacturing. The company carries no inventories. The master budget calls for the company to manufacture and sell 126,000 liters at a budgeted price of $270 per liter this year. The standard direct cost sheet for one liter of the preservative follows.             Direct materials (2 pounds @ $17) $ 34   Direct labor (0.5 hours @ $50)   25      Variable overhead is applied based on direct labor hours. The variable overhead rate is $150 per direct-labor hour. The fixed overhead rate (at the master budget level of activity) is $23 per unit. All non-manufacturing costs are fixed and are budgeted at $2.5 million for the coming year. At the end of the year, the costs analyst reported that the sales activity variance for the year was $816,000 unfavorable.   The following is the actual income statement (in thousands of dollars) for the year.…
