The amount of light that enters the eye is controlled by a circular muscle called iris. The iris contracts and relaxes during bright and dim light, respectively. A hole in the iris is the pupil through which the light enters. The light passes through pupil and falls on the lens. The lens refracts the light and focusses on the retina. The retina present at the rear end has two types of photosensitive photoreceptor cells called rods and cones. Since these photoreceptors are present at the rear end of the eye, the light passes through neural cells before reaching the photoreceptors.
