Embedded SystemsGeneral Purpose Computers

Embedded systems are a combination of computer hardware and software which is a programmed controlling and operating system and is designed for a specific function or for specific functions within a larger system.

General purpose computers are the one which with appropriate application and required time should be able to perform most common computing tasks.
These are usually found in consumer digital electronics and has a single function designed to do a particular task.General purpose computers do not have a set purpose and its purpose generally depends on the software being used on it.
The operating system of an embedded system is autonomous and is located on a “chip”.In general purpose computers, the operating system needs to be present in the hard disk.
Embedded systems are generally designed and deployed for one application and do not have a user interface.Different type of applications can be installed such as entertainment, multimedia and business as general purpose customers have a very flexible application layer.
Example: Portable music playerExample: Laptop and desktop
