The term brain. Introduction : To maintain standard physiology, all the organs must function in a proper and coordinated manner. By the process of coordination, these organs interact and complement the functions of one another. As a result, the organs start to function as a functional unit in harmony by the process of integration. The coordination and integration of several organs are mediated by the organized network of nerve fibers which are the functional units of the nervous or neural system. The brain is the main organ of the nervous system in animals and is present in cranial cavity of the skull. It is one of the components of central nervous system and is involved in the processing of the neural stimulations. The brain is divisible into three parts namely forebrain, midbrain, and hindbrain. The information received by the sensory neurons in the form of stimuli is transmitted to the brain for the processing of the inputs. The brain analyses and integrates the sensory information to generate an appropriate response and then transmitit through the motor neurons to the concerned organs. It also controls voluntary and involuntary actions, control thoughts, emotions, memory, and speech, etc. Hence, the brain acts as a center for coordination, intellectual as well as nervous activities.
