Airlines have increasingly outsourced the maintenance of their planes to other companies. A concern voiced by critics is that the maintenance may be less carefully done, so that outsourcing creates a safety hazard. In addition, flight delays are often due to maintenance problems, so one might look at government data on percent of major maintenance outsourced and percent of flight delays blamed on the airline to determine if these concerns are justified. This was done, and data from 2005 and 2006 appeared to justify the concerns of the critics. Do more recent data still support the concerns of the critics?

- Determine if the given problem is a cohort study. If the study is a cohort, identify if the design is prospective or retrospective. Also, identify the exposure variable and the outcome variable. If data is provided, perform simple analysis on the data and interpret the results. If the study is not a cohort, justify it by identifying and describing the key points why it is not a cohort study. A group cooperative in City A is a consumer-owned cooperative founded in 1945. In 1978, study was done wherein women who were aged 50-64 at the time of the study were identified. 8 women were excluded from the study because of a prior history of breast cancer. Their use of conjugated estrogens was obtained using computerized prescription records. From 1978 to 1984, women hospitalized with pathologic diagnosis of fibrocystic breast disease were identified.arrow_forwardGreenLawns provides a lawn fertilizer and weed control service. - What does the formulation of a research problem represents?arrow_forwardThe effect of aid is a subject of considerable academic and policy interest. In this question we examine the relationship between foreign aid and civil conflict using a recent paper by Crost et al. (2014) in the Philippines. The authors collect data on civil conflict related incidents at the municipality level as well as information on aid receipts at the municipality level. The conflict data was collected from the Philippine military and provides casualty counts (as well as the party responsible) by municipality. Aid in this context refers to a large anti-poverty program (the KALAHI-CIDSS) funded by the World Bank and run from 2003-2008. The program provided cash grants to municipalities to build infrastructure such as roads, water-systems, clinics and schools. The grants were fairly large and accounted for approximately 15% of the annual budget for the average municipality.
