Concept explainers
To determine: The degeneracy of genetic code.
Introduction: Genetic code is a triplet of ribonucleotide of mRNA which codes for an amino acid through the process of translation using DNA as a template. Degeneracy suggests the coding of a single amino acid by more than one genetic code.
To determine: The implication of non-degeneracy on the number of sense and nonsense codons.
Introduction: The sense codons are the one which codes for an amino acid, which is to be added into a polypeptide chain. The non-sense codon are the stop codons, terminating the process of translation.
To determine: The effect of the random mutation on the non-degeneracy of the code.
Introduction: Random mutation causes change in the sequence of the nucleotides in the DNA, hence changing the sequence of the codon on mRNA.
