Concept explainers
Three students are discussing their results from part B:
Student 1: I think that the image is closer to me than the pencil itself. The closer something is, the bigger it looks. Because the image of the pencil appears wider than the pencil itself, the image must be closer to me than the pencil.
Student 2: That sounds reasonable, but when I used parallax to determine the location of the image of the pencil, I found that it was farther from me than the pencil.
Student 3: “That doesn't make sense though. If the image were behind the pencil, then how could see the image? Wouldn't the pencil block my view of the imager?"
Do you agree or disagree with each of these students? Discuss your reasoning with your partners.

- I am trying to solve the blank problem and I've included the given sample problem that I was trying to use to help me solve the blank problem, so you can see my professor's thought process and try to help explain to me using how he solved a similar problem. The answer key says: 4717 m 58 degrees North of West, but I am not getting that answer and need help.arrow_forwardPlease find the value of g and the value for the uncertainty in g (in m/s^2). Refer to image.arrow_forwardIn the overhead view of Figure 26.4, the image of the stone seen by observer 1 is at C. At which of the five points A, B, C, D, or E does observer 2 see the image? Figure 26.4 (Quick Quiz 26.1) Where does observer 2 see the image of the stone?arrow_forward
- Problem 1 a. Derive an expression for the parallax angle as a function of the distance to the observed object. b. Based on this expression, is it easier to measure distances to nearby or faraway objects?arrow_forwardReflect (-3,-4) across the x-axis. Then reflect the result across the x-axis again. What are the coordinates of the final point?arrow_forwardUsing the image attached please calculate the uncertainty delta, the delta, the upper and lower limits of g. Please also write the actual g value in m/s^2 Please round the delta and the g value. Also please say if the actual g value is between the up and lower limit or if it’s not. For example, the actual g value of 9.8 m/s^2 is between the up and lower limit Please please answer everything super super fast please as fast as possible pleasearrow_forward
- I don't understand the question. Please help. This is for my astronomy lab assignment.arrow_forwardProblem A.3: Magnitude of Stars The star Sirius has an apparent magnitude of -1.46 and appears 95 times brighter compared to the more distant star Tau Ceti, which has an absolute magnitude of 5.69. (a) Explain the terms apparent magnitude, absolute magnitude and bolometric magnitude. (b) Calculate the apparent magnitude of the star Tau Ceti. (c) Find the distance between the Earth and Tau Ceti.arrow_forwardExplain TWO of the applications using correct terminology and connecting it to concepts in this unit. Option #1: A soap bubble is exposed to white light, and yet you see distinct colors. Why do you see different colors? Option #2: The star Mizar is a double star that only appears as two distinct stars when resolved by a telescope. Explain why. Option #3: Why is the sky blue? Option #4: What is the importance of Photo 51 and how was it made? Option #5: Why can we see more detail using an electron microscope vs an optical light microscope? Why don't you use them in your SBI4U0 class? Option #6: The MLB uses authentication holograms on their official merchandise. What is a hologram and how is it made? Option #7: Explain how the double slit experiment demonstrates the inseparability of the wave and particle nature of light and other quantum particles.arrow_forward
- Kindly give me a detailed answer in a clear handwriting of the subparts a,b and d by mentioning the subpart's name. It is one whole question. All the subparts are related. Take your time solving this. I am attaching the full question but I only need a, b and d. All the questions are related. This is my second time uploading these questions as I got wrong answers previously. So kindly answer this one by following the given instructions. I will upvote if the answer is correct.
