Name the fascicle arrangement in a muscle whose fibres extend along its long axis from origin to insertion.
To review:
The fascicle arrangement in a muscle whose fibers extend along its long axis from origin to insertion.
Introduction:
A fascicle can be described as a bundles of fibers. The arrangement of fascicles shows variation in different types of muscles. The fascicle arrangement provides information about the functions of the respective muscle. The different patterns include convergent, circular, fusiform, parallel, multipennate, bipennate, and unipennate.
Explanation of Solution
In the parallel arrangement of fascicles, the long axes are parallel to the long axis of the muscle. The muscle fibers are extended starting from the origin to the insertion. The muscles having this type of arrangement belong to either fusiform such as biceps brachii of the arm, or straplike which includes the saritorius muscle of the lower limb.
Most of the skeletal muscles present in the body show a parallel pattern of arrangement of the fascicles. Certain parallel muscles are similar to flat sheets having expansion at the ends in order to make broad attachments for example, the sartorius.
