Question
Chapter 11, Problem 1ST-403
Summary Introduction
Concept introduction:
Over 300 studies of the effect of stress on the immune system have shown that a short duration of stress can temporarily increase our immune response; while chronic (long duration) stress weakens our immune response and we become more susceptible to infections. There are many potential stressors, including daily hassles and environments such as pollution, crowded environments, and lack of resources; and of course, catastrophes such as hurricanes, war, and famine. In addition to our biological reaction to stress, we respond with changes in behaviors as we attempt to cope with the stressor and our feelings.
