Chapter 11, Problem 2PDT
Summary Introduction

To determine: The appropriate measures one should take in a field study to predict that whether or not the frequency of mutation will increase.

Introduction: Mutation can be defined as a mismatch or alternation of sequences of nucleotides within the genome of an organism. Mutation causes an abnormal change in the phenotype and genotype of organisms and can occur at the time of replication of DNA (Deoxyribose nucleic acid). It can also occur due to the exposure of physical and chemical mutagens.

Many plants mimic other plants or other animals in order to attract pollinators. a) Describe one example of plants mimicking either other plants or other animals in order to attract pollinators. b) Why might these “cheating” strategies have evolved rather than developing “truthful” signals to attract a pollinator?
The seeds of many seasonal northern plant species will not germinate until they have been exposed to a period of extreme heat, like those in a forest fire. Suggest and support a plausible reason that plants would require fire as an adaptation.
