Chapter 11, Problem 9E
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The function of hot air balloon is to be explained, and the relation between windy coastal weather and Charle’s Law is to be described.

Concept Introduction:

According to Archimedes principle, any object suspended in a fluid, is acted upon by an upward buoyant force which is equal to the weight of the fluid that has been displaced by the object. A hot air balloon with a vacuum inside is lifted by buoyant force because it weighs less than air.

The rising of air due to heat is called convection; the earth is heated unevenly. According to Charles law that part of the air which heats up faster will expand faster, along with a drop in pressure. As the air above the sea is cooler (high pressure), air flows from a high pressure region to the low pressure region.

What is the relationship between Weather Balloons and Boyle's law?
Weather balloons are only partially inflated before they are released into the air. Describe the changes that would occur as the balloon elevates, and explain why the balloon is not inflated fully
