Nitrogen is one of the most essential macromolecules needed by plants for their proper functioning. Nitrogen deficiency results in slow and stunted growth. There are some other soil organisms like Cyanobacteria which are able to convert molecular nitrogen into ammonium. Plants also use an ammonium form of nitrogen to increase their growth.
