Concept explainers
Interpretation: Partial pressure of each gases containing an equal number of moles present in the mixture of gases is to be determined.
Concept Introduction:
In a gas mixture, the pressure due to any individual component is termed as partial pressure of that component.
Any component’s partial pressure is that component’s fractional composition times the total pressure of the mixture.
According to the Dalton’s law of partial pressures, the sum of the partial pressures of each component in a gas mixture must equal the total pressure

- 43 In an experiment, a mixture of gases occupies a volume of 30.00 L at a temperature of 122.5 C. The mixture contains 14.0 g of water, 11.5 g of oxygen, and 37.3 g of nitrogen. Calculate the total pressure and the partial pressure of each gas.arrow_forwardA collapsed balloon is filled with He to a volume of 12.5 L at a pressure of 1.00 atm. Oxygen, O2, is then added so that the final volume of the balloon is 26 L with a total pressure of 1.00 atm. The temperature, which remains constant throughout, is 21.5 C. (a) What mass of He does the balloon contain? (b) What is the final partial pressure of He in the balloon? (c) What is the partial pressure of O2 in the balloon? (d) What is the mole fraction of each gas?arrow_forward39 A sample containing only NO2 and SO2, has a total pressure of 120. torr. Measurements show that the partial pressure of NO2 is 43 torr. 1f the vessel has a volume of 800.0 mL and the temperature is 22.0°C, how many moles of each gas are present?arrow_forward
