Question
Chapter 11.10, Problem 11.14CP
Program Plan Intro
Structure:
In C++, the structure is a user-defined data type, which contains different type of elements with different lengths.
- The size of the structure is calculated by the total number of elements which is declared in a structure.
- Structure can be passed as a function argument in the same way as pass any other variable.
- It can also be passed as a reference variable in a function argument.
- A structure can be returned by a function as a structure variable.
- A structure variable can also be defined as a pointer.
Syntax:
Syntax to declare a structure and passing structure as an argument is as follows:
struct struct_name1
{
member definition;
member definition;
…
member definition;
};
struct_name1 *struct_variable;
Pointer:
Pointer will allow the user to indirectly access and manipulate the data available in a variable. A pointer variable will hold the address of the data contents.
- If an asterisk “*” operator is placed before a variable then the variable is referred as a pointer variable.

What is the connection between a reference and a pointer?
Write an array of pointers to student structure of size 2. Fill this array to point to 2 students. Call a display function to display the values.

It is similar to how pointers pointing to native data types like int, float, double, etc. are created. A pointer in C++ will store a memory location. Following steps should be followed to perform a task. • Start of the body of the struct name Length. • Create a struct member named meters of integer data type and centimeters of float data type. • End of the body of the struct Length. • Call the main () function. • Create a pointer variable *ptr and normal variable l of type Length.
