a.
To determine:
Whether cultured bacterium is sensitive, intermediate, or resistant to each type of antibiotic drugs tested referring to figure 12.1a, given in the textbook.
Concept introduction:
Kirby-Bauer test is also called “disc diffusion antibiotic sensitivity test”. It is a test to determine antibiotic sensitivity of bacteria. In this test, antibiotic discs are placed in petri plates containing bacterial culture. A particular zone of inhibition around the disc represents the bacterium in the culture is susceptible to that antibiotic.
b.
To determine: The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the drugs being tested referring to figure 12.3a.
Concept introduction:
Kirby-Bauer test is also called “disc diffusion antibiotic sensitivity test”. It is a test to determine antibiotic sensitivity of bacteria. In this test, antibiotic discs are placed in petriplates containing bacterial culture. A particular zone of inhibition around the disc represents the bacterium in the culture is susceptible to that antibiotic.
