Expert Solution & Answer
Check Mark
Summary Introduction

To review:

The purpose of a sensory receptor.

Introduction:

The sensory receptor is a part of the PNS (peripheral nervous system). These receptors are present at the surface of neurons to sense external as well as internal environmental changes.

Explanation of Solution

The sensory receptor is classified as the component of nervous system, responsible for detecting the changes occurring in the external as well as the internal environment.

The sensory receptors help to monitor the internal stimuli like a decrease in the BP (blood pressure) or the external stimuli such as an insect bite on the skin. Without the sensory receptors, the brain will not get any information about the internal or the external stimuli and the changes, which occur due to the stimuli.

Conclusion

Thus, the purpose of a sensory receptor is to detect the changes that occur in the external and the internal environment of the body and inform the brain about these changes.
