Question
Chapter 12, Problem 20CP
Summary Introduction
To review:
The reason, due to EPSP (excitatory postsynaptic potential) as well as IPSP (inhibitory postsynaptic potential) are considered as graded potential and action potential are said to be “all-or-none”.
Introduction:
Resting membrane potential is when the inside potential of the cell's membrane is negative, that is, −70 mV (millivolt). When the resting membrane potential becomes more negative, hyperpolarization occurs and when the resting membrane potential becomes less negative, depolarization occurs. This hyperpolarization or depolarization causes the graded potential to occur. Thus, the graded potential means any change or deviation from the resting membrane potential.
