Cynthia Knott’s oyster bar buys fresh Louisiana oysters for $5 per pound and sells them for $9 per pound. Any oysters not sold that day are sold to her cousin, who has a nearby grocery store, for $2 per pound. Cynthia believes that demand follows the normal distribution, with a mean of 100 pounds and a standard deviation of 15 pounds. How many pounds should she order each day?
Daily demand for fresh cauliflower in the ZZ-Warehouse store follows normal distribution with mean 100 cartons and s.d. 20 cartons.
The ZZ-Warehouse buys at a cost of $50.00 per carton, sells it for $70.00 per carton.
Unsold cartons are sold for $20.00 per carton.
Cost of shortage = 70-50 = 20; cost of excess = 50-20 = 30;
Ratio using (20.1), the service level = (20/(20+30))= 0.4
What is the optimal order quantity, using the single period – continuous demand model?
a. 105
b. 95
c. 110
d. 100
e. 80

- The home appliance department in a large department store is using a (Q, R) system to control the replenishment of a model of FM radio. The store sells an average of 12 radios each week. Weekly demand follows a normal distribution with variance 30. (Assume that there are 52 weeks in a year.) The store pays $20 for each radio, which it sells for $85. Fixed order cost is $30 per order. The accounting department recommends a 20% interest rate for the cost of capital. Storage costs are 3% and breakage 2% of the purchasing cost of each item. If a customer demands the radio when it is out of stock, the customer will generally go elsewhere. Loss-of-goodwill costs are estimated to be about $25 per radio. Order lead time is 13 weeks. (The penalty cost includes loss of profit and loss of goodwill.) Find the optimal values of (Q, R) based on the penalty cost. The demand for all four patterns is seasonal and normally distributed. Each of the four patterns has an expected demand of 10,000 pairs with a standard deviation of 4,000 pairs. Currently, all patterns are produced before the start of the season. Production cost is $20 per pair, and they are sold for a wholesale price of $36 per pair. Any unsold sandal at the end of the season is sold at discounted price of $15 per pair. It costs $1 per pair to hold the sandals in inventory for the entire season if it does not sell. The company is considering the postponement of printing the pattern of the sandals. This will require the base sandals to be made in advance (identical for each of the four models) and the final patterns to be printed later. This will increase production cost of sandals to $22. 5 per pair. What is the optimal cycle service level before postponement? (choose…arrow_forward
