Summary Introduction

Introduction:

DNA synthesis occurs in two ways: one on leading strand and other on lagging strand. DNA strand is formed in 5'to3' direction. On leading strand continuous DNA synthesis takes place and on lagging strand short Okazaki fragments of DNA are formed in opposite direction in discontinuous way. Thus, the separation of both strands is necessary for replication. Unwinding, complementary base pairing and joining of the strands are the three major steps of DNA replication.
