Chapter 12, Problem 7SA
Program Plan Intro
ComboBox Controls:
- It is used to present a list of items in a drop-down list.
- User may select an item from a given list of items.
- Create a “ComboBox” control using the “ComboBox” class.
- It is present in the “javafx.scene.control” package.
- The “ComboBox” class contains a method “setEditable()”.
- This method contains an argument which takes a “boolean” value.
- If the user passes “true” in the argument, then the “ComboBox” will be editable.
- If the user passes “false” in the argument, then the “ComboBox” will be uneditable.
Example:
The example for “ComboBox” controls is shown below:
//create a ComboBox named countryComboBox
ComboBox<String> countryComboBox = new ComboBox<>();
//add the fruit items to ComboBox control
countryComboBox.getItems().addAll("Africa", "Australia", "India", "China");
- From the example “countryComboBox” is a “ComboBox” control and next line code adds the items into a ComboBox control using “getItems().addAll()” method.

Write an application that accepts a word from a user and converts it to Pig Latin. If a word starts with a consonant, the Pig Latin version removes all consonants from the beginning of the word and places them at the end, followed by ay. For example, cricket becomes icketcray. If a word starts with a vowel, the Pig Latin version is the original word with ay added to the end. For example, apple becomes appleay. If y is the first letter in a word, it is treated as a consonant; otherwise, it is treated as a vowel. For example, young becomes oungyay, but system becomes ystemsay.
