Chapter 12.4, Problem 11WDYL
Summary Introduction

To explain:

The type of glial cells replicates in response to the infection.

Concept introduction:

A neuron comprises the cell body, nerve fibers: dendrites, and an axon in its structure. Neural tissue involves two types of cells: neurons and neuroglia. Neuroglia is the supporting cells of the nervous system. Microglial, oligodendrocytes, ependymal, and astrocytes cells are types of neuroglia cells that are found in CNS. Satellite and Schwann cells are the neuroglia cells that are located in PNS. These cells protect the neurons from damage and provide a protected environment.

Blurred answer
Students have asked these similar questions
Match the neuroglia with the correct function: A. Satellite cells B. Schwann Cells C. Oligodendrocytes D. Ependymal E. Microglia F. Astrocytes   1. Cells that produce the myelin in the PNS. 2. Cells that produce myelin in the CNS 3. Phagocytes that dispose debris like dead brain cells and bacteria 4. Anchors and braces neurons with cellular projections 5. Cells have cilia that help circulate the cerebrospinal fluid  6. Cells help cushion and protect neurons in the PNS 7. Cells serve as a medium for diffusion between capillaries and neurons 8. Cells line cavities of the brain and spinal cord
If a person suffer from meningitis (inflammation of the covering around the brain) which type of glial cell usually replicates in response to the infection
Which statement is true regarding the nervous system?  a) Damaged myelin on an axon has no effect with its ability to transmit an action potential b) Depolarization is the reduction of the membrane potential; going from negative to a more positive charge c) Neuroglia cells are only responsible for providing immunity to the nervous cells d) Neurons can communicate with other cells without the use of neurotransmitters
