Introduction:
Phototransduction is the phenomenon which start with the capture of photon of light by the visual pigment. A deep purple pigment called rhodopsin is the visual pigment of rods. The arrangement of the rhodopsin, is in a single layer in the membranes of outer segment of rods. The formation and accumulaion of rhodopsin is takes place in the dark. The oxidation of vitamin A to the 11 cis-retinal form, followed by the combination with opsin leads to the formation of rhodopsin. The process of phototransduction involves the capturing of light by means of three steps: pigment synthesis, pigment bleaching and pigment regeneration.
