Introduction: Neuron is a basic functional unit of nervous system. The human brain consists of about 100 billion neurons. Neurons are the specialized cells of nervous system that makes a complex network for the transmission of messages.
Answer to Problem 1RQ
Correct answer: “All neural signals begin with a stimulus that activates a receptor”.
Explanation of Solution
Neural signal is a rapid and efficient network of nervous system. It carries various messages to and from the brain and spinal cord to all over the body and transfer signals across different parts of the body.
A stimulus is the prompt or a change in the environment of the neuron which illicit the movement of electrical impulse through the neurons in the body. This in turn creates a cascade of reactions that lead to the brain or the spinal cord through which a response is generated.
Thus, stimulus activates a receptor which results in the beginning of neural signals.
