Chapter 13, Problem 2RC
Summary Introduction

Introduction:

Many types of neuroglia are present in the central nervous system (CNS) as well as the peripheral nervous system (PNS). There are four types of neuroglia found in the CNS, namely, ependymal cells, astrocytes, oligodendrocytes, and microglia. PNS consists of two types of neuroglia, which are Schwann cell and satellite cell.

Match the neuroglia with the correct function: A. Satellite cells B. Schwann Cells C. Oligodendrocytes D. Ependymal E. Microglia F. Astrocytes   1. Cells that produce the myelin in the PNS. 2. Cells that produce myelin in the CNS 3. Phagocytes that dispose debris like dead brain cells and bacteria 4. Anchors and braces neurons with cellular projections 5. Cells have cilia that help circulate the cerebrospinal fluid  6. Cells help cushion and protect neurons in the PNS 7. Cells serve as a medium for diffusion between capillaries and neurons 8. Cells line cavities of the brain and spinal cord
Neuroglia (a) conduct electrical impulses, (b) are nerve stem cells, (c) are support cells that aid neurons, (d) are an abnormal growth of neural tissue.
In order to function, does the nervous system depend on other systems such as the muscular system or the respiratory system?
