Introduction:
Lung collapse occurs when the air collects into the pleural space between the lungs and the chest wall. This builds a pressure on the lungs and consequently, the lungs cannot expand as much as they would do under normal conditions. Lung collapse can occur due to trauma to the chest cavity, smoking cigarettes, drug abuse or due to certain lung diseases.
