The properties of a solution that depends on the number of solute particles present in solution but do not depend on the nature of solute particles are called as colligative properties.
The four colligative properties of solution are vapor-pressure lowering, boiling point elevation, freezing point depression, and osmotic pressure.
The pressure that is applied to a pure solvent and prevents from passing into the given solution by osmosis is termed as osmotic pressure.
Osmosis is defined as the flow of molecules through a semipermeable membrane from a more dilute solution to a more concentrated solution.
Concentration is the amount of solute present in the solution.
