Chapter 13.12, Problem 11E
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

Dimensionless ratio (ψ2) of methane and cyclohexane has to be determined.

Concept introduction:

Initially use the property table to obtain the molar enthalpy of the components and then use that value in the expression for dimensionless ratio to obtain the dimensionless ratio of methanol and cyclohexane

The expression for dimensionless ratio (ψ1) of methanol.

ψ1=exp[ΔH_1Fus(Tm,1)RTm,1(TTm,1)T]

Here, molar enthalpy of fusion of component 1 is ΔH_1Fus, melting temperature of component 1 or methanol is Tm,1, gas constant is R, and system temperature is T.

The expression for dimensionless ratio (ψ2) of cyclohexane.

ψ2=exp[ΔH_2Fus(Tm,2)RTm,2(TTm,2)T]

Here, molar enthalpy of fusion of component 2 is ΔH_2Fus, and melting temperature of component 2 or cyclohexane is Tm,2.
