Chapter 13.2, Problem 3CYP
Summary Introduction
To analyze:
The role of ATP and calcium in muscle contraction.
Introduction:
The onset of muscle contraction includes the release of calcium ions from the sarcoplasmic reticulum into the sarcoplasm. Myosin head has an ATP binding site. During muscle contraction, myosin head becomes attached to actin to form cross-bridges, rotates and then detach. Repetition of a series of events slides the thin filaments past the thick filaments.
