Summary Introduction

To describe: The protective structures of the central nervous system.

Concept introduction:

The nervous system controls and coordinates all the activities of the animals. It is classified into two major types, namely central nervous system (CNS) and peripheral nervous system (PNS). The central nervous system includes the brain and spinal cord. All the activities of the body are controlled by the brain and anatomically consist of three major parts, namely forebrain, midbrain, and hindbrain. The spinal cord is a column of nerve tissue that extends from the medulla oblongata to the second lumbar vertebra within the vertebral column.
