Chapter 13.L1, Problem 3CSR
Summary Introduction
To review:
The features of the virulence, infectious dose, and incubation period of Ebola virus that increase its transmission from person to person.
Introduction:
The story of Ebola virus outbreaks is not a new one. The first cases, originally termed Ebola hemorrhagic fever, occurred near the Ebola River of Zaire (now the Central African Republic) in 1976. Since then, there have been 24 additional outbreaks, but the one in 2014–2015 was by far the most severe. It affected 28,638 people and killed 11,315 in Africa. It also has very low infectious dose and unpredictability of the incubation period.
