Diencephalon comprises thalamus, hypothalamus, and epithalamus. The thalamus covers 80% of the diencephalon and is located below the corpus callosum. It is a part of the body's limbic system. It is divided into two halves with interthalamic adhesion bridging the two. Each side of the thalamus consists of seven groups of nuclei performing various functions.
