Explanation of Solution

Nasal congestion appears if a person staying in an old house with the hot-air furnace that lacks a humidifier. This is because the air during breathing while sleeping is dry and it absorbs more moisture compared to the usual amount of moisture as it passes through the nasal cavity. Therefore, the nasal epithelia remain secreting mucus. However, the loss of moisture made the mucus more viscid and hence, the cilia has trouble moving the mucus, thereby causing nasal congestion.
